This presents faculty and staff with the challenge of how to recruit, support and motivate students in an age-diverse environment. This interactive program will provide insights for understanding the unique strengths and challenges of two of the generations, Millennials and Gen Z, and offers some ideas for engaging students in and out of the classroom.

Career Coach via Emsi is a new platform Kalamazoo Valley is implementing for career and employment development, as well as serving as a new, more effective job board. This powerful online service uses Emsi’s comprehensive labor market data to help students find careers that match their strengths—and discover programs at Kalamazoo Valley that will prepare them for success. Through an assessment identifying strengths and interests, students can explore broad Department of Labor career pathways that match their results and can compare careers within a pathway, including salaries, required education and more. Users are then connected to the Kalamazoo Valley specific programs of study that meet their career aspirations. Career Coach also serves as an online job board where employers can post positions and students can easily search them to meet their employment needs.

Understanding Introversion and Extroversion in the Classroom and Workplace
You’ll find a mixture of introverts and extroverts in any classroom. So, what does this mean and how should this inform how modern higher education classes are taught? In the United States, our culture favors extroverted personalities over introverted ones - in K-12, higher education and in most industries and places of employment. During discussions of creating a diverse and inclusive environment for student success, introversion and extroversion awareness should also be included these conversations and efforts. During this presentation, we’ll define extroversion and introversion according to the MBTI, discuss the neurobiological differences between the two, learn how to identify students who are actually engaged introverted personalities vs those students who are not engaged and provide practical strategies to engage both extroverts and introverts in the classroom.
